President William Ruto has called on the police to maintain mutual respect with the public as they discharge their duties.
Ruto said respect is a necessity as protecting citizens is their topmost responsibility.
“It is important for every police officer to be mindful of the need to maintain relations of mutual respect with members of the public as a matter of necessity," he said
"This is because citizens are their employers, citizens’ rights and freedoms are constitutionally protected and also because cordial relations with the public enhance police capacity to keep citizens, their communities and property safe,” Ruto added.
The President spoke on Wednesday at the Passing out parade of administration officers at NPC Embakasi A Campus.
The President said the government has enhanced coordination between various agencies in resolving crime and security threats.
This also included deepening the collaboration between the police service and communities.
The Head of State reminded the APs graduates as well as all members of the service that Kenyans have high demands in them.
“You should have no difficulty whatsoever in meeting them, by serving them with discipline, dignity, courage, firmness and fairness,” Ruto said.
The police were also advised to adhere to the police service motto "Utumishi Kwa Wote" as part of their contract and commit to doing their utmost in delivering on it.
“It is our legitimate expectation that you are ready to face the challenge head-on in a skilful, efficient and effective manner, thereby safeguarding the necessary environment for Kenyans to pursue their aspirations and achieve shared prosperity,” Ruto said.
