Fidelity to law is key to success at IEBC – Chebukati

The immediate former IEBC chairman said he had no regrets as he bowed out.

Immediate former IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati has penned a farewell letter to Kenyans after serving for six years.

On Wednesday morning at around 1:46 am, Chebukati thanked Kenyans for allowing him to serve them through two elections.

“I was appointed the chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on January 18, 2017, for a constitutional term of six years. Yesterday I completed my term. It has been an honour,” he said.

Chebukati termed his assignment as challenging but was proud of himself saying he served his country to the best of his ability and in accordance with the oath of office he took.

Proud of the work he has done and the achievements, the former IEBC boss said he has left the commission with solid governance structures and a stable permanent secretariat.

Chebukati praised and expressed his warm-hearted gratitude to the IEBC staff for working with them during his tenure.

“To the IEBC staff, thank you for working tirelessly and with dedication despite difficult circumstances at times. You are the true heroes,” he said.

Chebukati advised them the incoming commission, to strictly adhere to the law for an easy stay at IEBC.

“To the future commission, fidelity to the law is the key to success at IEBC. God bless IEBC. God bless Kenya,” he said.

Speaking in his last official function on Monday, Chebukati said he has no regrets as he bows out.

“I exit contented that we gave it our best to this commission. We chartered and weathered storms that threatened the existence of the commission,” he said.
