  • •Kioni pegged his figures on an anonymous whistle-blower, an alleged IEBC staff, who claimed that Raila beat Ruto in the elections.
  • •Mungatana said Kioni claims that Raila won the polls were fareetched

Jubilee secretary general Jeremiah Kioni has come under attack over claims that the IEBC rigged elections in favour of President William Ruto.

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana of UDA has criticised the claims and asked the former MP to respect the IEBC and the Supreme Court which validated the polls.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, Mungatana said that Kioni was irresponsible in his utterances.

"How can he come with a piece of paper to show that that is more authentic than what the IEBC said?" he posed.

"We have the responsibility as leaders to respect the institutions in this Country. And if he cannot respect IEBC, let him respect the Supreme Court."

On Wednesday, Kioni claimed that Raila won the August 9, 2022 presidential election.

He alleged that Raila got 8.17 million votes or 57.53 per cent of the votes cast while Ruto garnered 5.91 million votes or 41.66 per cent of the total votes cast.

Kioni pegged his figures on an anonymous whistle-blower, an alleged IEBC staff, who claimed that Raila beat Ruto in the elections.

"We have no reason to doubt the information which confirmed our fears," Kioni said.

But Mungatana said Kioni's claims that Raila won the polls were farfetched

"You are a learned person. If you want to do things, come with a credible information. You don't come with a piece of paper and say that a person who is not identified has the truth," he said.

"We want the opposition to thrive. We want the opposition to do its work. But holding us into account does not mean coming up with an unauthenticated paper."
