Kisii leaders in Nairobi demand CCTV footage of Matiangi’s home raid

They said it will assist put the matters to rest and unveil what exactly transpired

Omogusii Nairobi County Forum has called for the release of the CCTV footage of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i's home.

Addressing the media on Friday, the leaders said the footage will assist put the matters to rest and unveil what exactly transpired on Wednesday night.

“We demand that the police open the CCTV footage on the Matiang’i raid saga night to unravel the truth,” said Joseph Nyandika, Forum’s chairperson.

The Forum also called on Kisii leaders in the Kenya Kwanza government to give their opinion on the matter.

They specifically mentioned Education CS Ezekiel Machogu and MP Silvanus Osoro.

On Wednesday night, it is alleged that elite police officers arrived and surrounded his Karen home to arrest him for unspecified reasons.

The former CS said he learned of the planned raid earlier in the day.

He defended himself from any wrongdoing saying he left the government a clean man.

However, his successor, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki dismissed claims of police involvement in the alleged raid.

Inspector General of police Japhet Koome denied claims his officers went to Matiangí’s house.

He said he had checked and found no such operation was sanctioned if any.

Also, Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission chief executive officer Twalib Mbarak denied his officers were involved in the said attempted raid.

In addition, the Omogusii leaders have urged the government to allow Matiang’i enjoy his privileges as a former state CS.

They said the former CS served the nation with dignity and should be treated with respect.

“Matiang’i being one of our senior leaders, deserves honor and privileged that dignitaries enjoy after service and not only for him but also other former leaders,”Nyandika said.
