The number of Kenyans who use Facebook declined from 27 per cent in 2021 to 23 per cent in 2022, the latest survey by the Media Council of Kenya shows.
The State of Kenya’s Media 2022 report shows that Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube are the most used digital/social media platforms in 2021 and 2022.
“Whereas Facebook was the most popular platform in 2022, WhatsApp dominated the digital media space in 2021,” the report shows.
The survey commissioned by the MCK and conducted by lnfotrak was conducted between December 8 and December 24 using Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews and Computer Assisted Personal Interviews.
The survey targeted 3,331 respondents aged 15 years old and above at the time of the survey in all 47 counties.
According to the survey, 11 per cent of the respondents said they rely on YouTube, eight per cent on Twitter, seven per cent on Tik Tok and Instagram respectively, two per cent on Telegram and Snapchat and one per cent on Linkedin.
“Young people (18 - 24 yrs) rely mostly on legacy media platforms such as television, radio, and digital platforms such as social media, for information,” the report says.
The report shows television and radio are the leading media platforms at 33 per cent respectively.
The two are followed by social media at 18 per cent, family, friends, and colleagues at six per cent, and newspapers at six per cent.
