Political leaders from the Gusii region have embarked on the final leg of the preparations for President William Ruto's tour.
The President is expected to visit both Kisii and Nyamira counties sometime next week to commission development projects.
Ruto's tour will also see him attend a planned thanksgiving ceremony for Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
Leaders are yet to agree on the venue of the President's big meeting with the public. Both Gusii stadium and Nyanturago are on the cards.
Political leaders had already drafted a development agenda that they will present to Ruto in the form of a memorandum.
Machogu was spearheading the harmonisation process of the region's development agenda to the President.
The political leadership from the region is firming up some of the key projects that they want the president to commission during his tour.
Retired Kisii Governor James Ongwae and his then-deputy Joash Maangi are leading the planning for the President's working visit.
They have been holding meetings with opinion and political leaders from the region to harmonise the region's agenda.
"Plans are at an advanced stage," said Maangi when asked about the President's expected tour.
Maangi refused to disclose the actual dates, saying they will be released at an appropriate time.
"At the moment, what is clear is that the President will visit our region very soon and as leaders, we are ready to welcome him," he said.
Professionals from the region are expected to hold a meeting in Nairobi later this week to firm up preparations with the political class.
The meeting will be a follow-up to another one that was held three weeks ago in which key politicians from the two counties also attended.
Ruto's visit will come on the backdrop of Azimio boss Raila Odinga's recent tour of the region in which he railed on the government for ignoring the Abagusii community.
Raila claimed that Ruto's government has dished out jobs to other regions but gave the community only one CS post.
He claimed that the recent nomination of Shadrack Mose as Solicitor General is not an additional post as the holder of the office, Ken Ogeto, was also from the region.
The President is expected to make a couple of state appointments including Chief Cabinet Secretaries that would correct the image before his visit.
A number of leaders from the region are angling for the CASs posts.
Ruto recently appointed Josephine Omanwa as a member of the Kenya Dairy Board as part of his plans to appease the community.
