National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro and Kathiani MP Robert Mbui have criticised former governors seeking Chief Administrative Secretary posts.
The two lawmakers, who closed the ranks to hit out at the former county bosses, spoke after eight ex-governors were shortlisted for the CAS posts on Tuesday.
They include Evans Kidero(Nairobi), John Mruttu(Taita Taveta), Samwel Tunai(Narok), James Ongwae(Kisii), Samwel Ragwa(Tharaka Nithi), Patrick Khaemba(Trans Nzoia), Hussein Dado(Tana River) and Moses Lelonkulal of Samburu.
Osoro insisted that it was unfair for governors who have retired after completing their two terms to seek the posts saying they have already exhausted opportunities to serve Kenyans.
However, no law bars former governors who have retired or lost polls. from seeking other positions either elective or appointive.
According to the UDA MP, the governors may not add value at all in government saying such jobs should be handed to young people.
"It is really very sad to see ex-governors some who have served to their full two terms lining up for these positions. What did you not offer as a county head that you want to offer the country?" he posed.
"It should be an opportunity to nurture young people and prepare them for the future of this country. It should be an opportunity to balance government as long as the two-thirds gender rule is concerned."
In a heated debate on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Mbui regretted that it was in bad test for former elected leaders and poll losers to line up for the CAS posts.
The posts available, Mbui opined, should be given to younger people who have never served in public service as a way of nurturing them.
"We are a country that needs to plan its future and not to keep going back because a lot of these names of people that keep applying for these positions have already held very senior positions in the country," he said.
"There are people who have served two terms as Governor and now they want to become assistant misters. It is important that if we are going to build the country let's look forward, let's look at our youth and the people that can be able to add value."
Mbui who is the deputy minority leader in the National Assembly asked ex-governors to venture into other businesses and allow the young people to take over.
"As a country, we need to understand that if you go for a political office and you don't make it, find something else to do. Politics is not everything," he said.
"I wish we had our young graduates who have served in the public sector for a few years apply for these positions so that they can be able to grow. For me it's just an embarrassment
