Majority of staff at KETRACO are youthful, report shows

Staff aged between 31-40 years make 63 per cent of workforce

The majority of the workforce at Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (Ketraco) are aged between 31-40 years (63 per cent), a report to a House committee shows.

The report to the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee of the National Assembly said staff aged 21-30 are 49 while those aged 31-40 are 329.

Employees aged 41-50 are 98 while those aged 51-60 are 44, according to the report.

Staff composition as of 28 February 2023 stood at 520. The approved staff establishment is 910.

On staff gender distribution, KWS is below the required percentage of 33 per cent of either gender.

According to the report, 370 members of staff are male (71 per cent) while 150 are female (29 per cent).

“The service is committed to ensuring that the gender disparity is achieved through affirmative action during recruitments,” KWS said.

It noted that the service has grown from a total of 40 employees (26 males and 14 females) in 2010.

It added seven Persons with Disabilities have been recruited since the promulgation of the Constitution.

“The company has registered with the National Council for Persons Living with Disability to ensure that the target group is reached when there are employment opportunities,” KWS stated.

It further said the institution has grown from a representation of eight ethnic groups in 2010 to 24 currently.
