President William Ruto will skip Luo community-dominated regions in his three-day working tour of South Nyanza.

The president will from Thursday embark on an extensive visit to the counties of Kisii and Nyamira and parts of Migori county.

Migori county is perceived to be opposition leader Raila Odinga's stronghold.

Ruto will land in Migori on Saturday but concentrate on the side of Kuria where he is lined up to launch development projects.

On Thursday and Friday, the President will be in Kisii and Nyamira counties to commission a number of development projects and also meet elected leaders.

During his tour of Kuria, the president will visit Kuria West Constituency where he will commission a number of development projects.

The constituency is represented by Mathia Robi of Ruto's United Democratic Alliance party.

He will traverse Motemorabu and Nyabohanse regions before heading to Taranganya in Kuria East.

Kuria East is reprised by Kitayama Marwa of UDA while the county woman representative is Fatuma Mohamed who was elected on the independent ticket.

However, although it is not provided for in the official programme, the president can always make other impromptu stopovers to speak to residents.

Ruto's decision to snub the Luo-inhabited sections of Migori county comes when Raila has intensified protests against his administration.

Migori was among the counties where Azimio supporters staged massive demonstrations on Monday following Raila's calls for mass action.

In mid-January, Ruto toured three Luo Nyanza counties of Homa Bay, Kisumu and Siaya, making a triumphant entry after Raila asked political leaders from the region to welcome him.

Migori governor Ochilo Ayako had during the tour publicly requested to meet the President alongside other leaders from the county to plan a visit to his devolved unit.

The President had granted an audience with the Migori leaders led by Ayako at the Kisumu State Lodge.

With Raila's escalated anti-government protests, it is unlikely that Azimio allied MPs who have claimed they don't recognise him as president will show up.

During the presidential campaigns last year, Ruto had promised to ensure constitutional changes to give Kuria its own county.

The Kuria, which is the minority tribe in Migori county, has been alleging marginalisation in the political leadership of the developed unit.

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said on Wednesday that the president's tour of south Nyanza is a working trip.

"The President will also hold several meetings with the people and leaders from the region,” said Mohamed at a press briefing in Kisii Town.

In the 2022 elections, Ruto dwarfed Raila in the battle for the Kuria votes in Migori county.

Ruto scooped 65.13 per cent of votes cast in Kuria East and West constituencies. Raila managed 34.17 per cent.

In Kuria West, Ruto polled 29,212 votes followed by Raila who got 12,106. Roots Party's George Wajackoyahh had 182 and David Mwaure(109).

In Kuria East, Ruto got 16,795 votes, Raila (12,031), Wajackoyah(144) and Mwaure (62).
