New KMPDC board members assume office, challenged to uphold professional ethics

The new Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council board has assumed office.

The board chaired by Stanley Khainga has been inaugurated by the Health CS Susan Wafula, marking the beginning of a new era of healthcare provision in Kenya.

Their appointment was made by President Ruto through a Gazette notice on March 10.

KMPDC has been mandated to regulate the training, practice and licensing of medicine, dentistry and healthcare institutions.

These include private and mission hospitals, medical, dental centres and clinics, nursing and maternity homes and standalone funeral homes.

The new board members include the Ag health DG Patrick Amoth, Stephen Ogendo, Elizabeth Gitau, Timothy Theuri, Moses Kiptanui, Sarah Bonaya, Rose Kosgei, and Livingstone Bumbe.

With the new board's expertise and commitment, KMPDC is expected to play a critical role in shaping the healthcare sector in Kenya in the coming years.

The new appointees are well-positioned to ensure that KMPDC contributes to the overall goal of achieving UHC in the country.

The new membership is expected to bring diverse perspectives and expertise to the board which will help KMPDC achieve its mandate and make significant strides toward ensuring quality healthcare for all Kenyans.

Also present during the inauguration include including the two CASs James Mbaluka and Khatib Mwashetani as well as the PS state department of public health and professional standards Josephine Mburu.

Mburu challenged the new board to provide exceptional services to Kenyans while upholding professional ethics and ensuring that quality standards are maintained for service delivery.

The board has been mandated to ensure Kenya’s plan to attain Universal Health Coverage is achieved by improving healthcare services in the country.
