National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has maintained that the Kenya Kwanza administration will only engage in a roundtable discussion with Azimio leader Raila Odinga if he recognizes the legitimacy of President William Ruto's government.
Wetang’ula asked religious leaders to advise Raila to accept that there is a legitimate government in place under the leadership of President William Ruto.
Wetang’ula said that Kenyans want peace, their children to get a good education, farmers to get fertilizer and the country to move forward.
"Everything that is meant for development by the Kenya Kwanza government will only be derailed if we follow the protests way," he said.
He said that in an election, there are usually only two outcomes, a winner and a loser.
He was speaking during interdenominational prayers organized by over forty churches drawn from Rift Valley and Western regions at Silungai primary school in Malava constituency Saturday.
"If you tune a lady and she refuses, you go with another one. Do you keep going to his house at night to throw stones at his rooftop?" he said.
He said that Ruto and Rigathi swore by the Bible to protect, preserve and defend the Kenyan constitution and that is what they are going to exactly do since Kenya is a country that is anchored on the rule of law.
He told Raila that the only way of reducing the cost of food is by improving production not by going to the streets with sticks and stones.
"My brother Musalia and I were with Raila in the 2017 elections where he lost, 2013 I was with him in Cord and he again lost, 2007 same thing, 1997 same thing surely even if one is jinxed why is it affecting Odinga only," he said
“I want to tell my brother Raila to relax since after going to court he was told he lost the elections he said he wasn't agreeing and promised to respect the court decision. Yet, what he is doing now is completely opposite of what he promised and the law will take its course,” he said.
He said that Raila should be writing the final chapter of the legacy.
He added if he wants to be remembered as a politician who never at one point accepted election results will only bring a curse to his lineage who will one day vie for elective seats.
Wetang’ula cautioned Raila against making many enemies in his life.
He asked the opposition leader to leave ambassadors alone as they are friends of Kenyan and that's why they are in the country.
“If they don't agree with you it's because they know the facts. All those Ambassadors we were with at the Bomas of Kenya saw what happened. They saw the outcome of the Chebukati election that is why they are not interested in you and if you don't know you should know now,” he said.
He further took a swipe at former President Uhuru Kenyatta for maintaining a conspiracy of silence in the ongoing demos.
“I want to urge Uhuru who is the only former president who is alive to be a statesman in the country. He should call the country in order when things go wrong,” said Wetang’ula.
“President Ruto has no power under the constitution to keep or open the server, they can only be opened under the instruction of Supreme Court which was knocked out in a judgment that had your lawyers,” he said.
