City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has sent an open letter to Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga after his ceasefire deal with President William Ruto.

In his letter, Kipkorir said Raila had many times been given the chance to take the leadership of the country but each time he has 'squandered' it.

He went on to say that Raila misused all his chances by working with the same people and using the same tactics and strategies, but he now has another chance to change the course of history.

"Your Excellency, the gods are jealous. They hardly give any the opportunity to change the course of History for the better. To those that wanted to be like gods like King Sisyphus of Ephyra of mythological Greece, they were condemned to the eternal punishment of rolling up the stone!" Kipkorir said.

"But the heavens have been generous to you. Time and again, you have been given opportunity after opportunity to take leadership of this country. But each time, you squandered the chance by using the same people, the same tactics, the same strategy and trusting the system to work. The gods are immortal but have no infinite patience. You have been given yet another chance."

The lawyer further stated that Ruto is the only head of state who has previously worked under Raila and they know each other well, compared to the other presidents he worked with.

He urged Raila to accept President Ruto's olive branch.

Kipkorir, however, noted that as they engage, it should strictly be about Kenya and the people.

"President William Ruto has taken the high road and called you “My Brother” and extended a hand of friendship, collaboration & bipartisan cooperation. This inspite of hardliners around him that wanted you “destroyed”. Accept the President’s hand."

"We have a Constitution that can fix our broken Country. Enact Bipartisan Legislation to entrench devolution, depoliticize the Public Service, end discrimination on Tribe, Race, Gender, Religion & Political Affiliation, entrench the Bill of Rights and fix our broken electoral system.

"Let it be entrenched in law that development isn’t a gift of the Executive; let it come out clearly that the Bill of Rights isn’t a gift of IG Japhet Koome. End political deceit of MPs. MPs can’t switch party loyalty without losing their seats. Make inviolable Political Parties Coalition Agreements," he added.

Kipkorir who backed Raila's bid for presidency advised that it is time he changes the people around him when negotiating with Ruto.

He said most of his allies are only 'political brokers' and the success of his engagements with Ruto will highly depend on the team Raila will pick as his negotiators.

"Bring on board people like Ledama Olekina, Edwin Sifuna, Suleiman Shahbal, Enoch Wambua, Mutula Kilonzo Junior and similar-minded leaders. People who mean well for Kenya. President Ruto is smart, awake and woke. The results of your meeting with him will depend on the team you choose as your negotiators. A team is as good as its Players and not the playing field or the Referee," the lawyer said.

"The gods have given you another chance. Maybe the last chance. Seize it. Fix our country. As always, offer self for the Nation," he added.
