Comedian Eric Omondi was Tuesday arraigned to answer charges of causing a disturbance in the city.
It is alleged that on April 3 at around 11.30 along Kenyatta Avenue, he created a disturbance in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by erecting a barrier in the middle of the road.
Police said after placing the barrier in the middle of the road, he mounted it and began shouting, causing a disturbance.
According to the prosecution, the barrier erected caused obstruction and inconvenienced other road users.
Omondi committed the offence on April 3, 2023, along Kenyatta Avenue within Nairobi Central Business District.
He, however, denied the allegations before trial Magistrate Zainabu Abdul and was released on Sh5,000 cash bail.
Defence lawyer Danstan Omari had pleaded with the court to grant the accused person lenient bail terms.
“Your honour, I plead with you to grant my client lenient bond terms so that he can continue with his job of online content creation,” Omari said.
The lawyer told the court that he would like the prosecution to produce measured decibels of the noise when the comedian staged the drama.
The case will be mentioned on April 13 for pre-trial
During the protest on Monday, the comedian, who claimed to be protesting over the high cost of living, stood propped on a makeshift podium in the CBD, cradling a megaphone, and a rope dangling from his neck.
"The voice of the people shall not be dimmed," he captioned several photos.
His protest which was cut short with his arrest comes a day after Azimio La Umoja called off bi-weekly protests to give the dialogue proposed by President William Ruto a chance.
It is not the first time he is arrested in such drama.
Last week, Omondi was caught in yet another drama when he pulled a cart on a road leading to State House Nairobi stuffed with CVs from jobless youths.
He was apprehended by police and later released.
