Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Tuesday met with the winners of the Forty Under 40 Africa Awards held in South Africa.
He was accompanied by Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Peninah Malonza.
Gachagua noted that their win in various categories which were stiffly contested helped boost Kenya's profile.
"It is always a great pleasure hosting and interacting with young and ambitious people doing exemplary work in their fields of expertise," he said.
He added that it was inspiring to see youth exploiting opportunities to improve their lives and make a notable contribution to transforming Kenya.
"We take pride in and celebrate these young and innovative people," the DP added.
The winners include Gilbert Ang’ana (Capacity Building Award), Wangari Kuria (Agriculture Award), Linda Odhiambo (Education Award), Joan Musumba (Environment and Conservation Award), and Isaac Mwangi (Social Enterprise and Responsible Tourism Award).
Edwin Taka (Community Development Award), Elijah Nyaanga (Journalism Award) and Sosthen Eugine (Youth Governance Award).
Gachagua said the government's Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) prioritises directing more resources to the bottom of the economic pyramid, where most of the youths are.
