Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has said the government cannot ignore Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during an interview with KTN News, Kabogo said that President William Ruto defeated Raila by only 200,000 votes and that shows the power of numbers.

"Raila knows about his numbers, and when he calls for the numbers to the streets, they will line up, he knows he has a following," Kabogo said.

Ruto garnered 7.1 million while Raila Odinga garnered 6.9 million as declared by the IEBC.

Kabogo said the two leaders should go to the table and discuss matters of development and how to take the country forward.

"I am happy the President saw it wise, urged Raila to call off demos as he is open for dialogue," he added.

"Let them go to the table and discuss."

He further questioned why the law has not been changed to allow official opposition leader in parliament.

"That way, the leader can check up on the government and handle matters well."

On April 2, when Raila called off the demos, he stated that the mass protests would resume after a week if no meaningful progress is made following Ruto's plea.

"We acknowledge Ruto’s olive branch for a dialogue on key issues raised by Azimio La Umoja. To us, this is a positive development," Raila said.

"I believe that Kenya is today facing its worst crisis in decades out of which we could recover or go the way of other failed states."
