Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech has said politicians should not be allowed to participate in the section of the IEBC panel.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, he said they should not be included in any matters regarding the electoral body since they are key players in the elections.

“If it were up to me, we should disallow politicians from participating in the selection of those who will be in the IEBC panel. Because what are we doing with a referee? All of us are products of IEBC,” Koech said.

“Why would we want to have our hand in an election process? It has nothing to do with us.”

He said Azimio la Umoja’s team's request of opening the server should be upheld to allow peace to prevail in the country.

“But now since that is what they want, it is okay. All we are saying is that if this is what is going to give peace to this country, let us give Azimio what they want,” Koech said.

“Because at the end of the day and people should have this in mind, the election is not decided by IEBC. It is not.”

The MP added that politicians should go out on their way to look for votes from people instead of creating chaos after elections are over.

“Elections are decided by Kenyans. People should go out and campaign and get their votes on the ground. Elections are won in polling stations. We are all products of elections,” he said.

“What we are talking about here is just creating mysterious and apprehension in the country for unnecessary reasons.”

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has insisted that the IEBC server should be opened so that it is scrutinised and the correct results of the August 9, 2022 polls made public.

"Lazima wafungue server," Raila said.

He threatened to mobilise his supporters back to the streets after Ramadhan if their demands will not be met by then.
