In normal circumstances, personal vehicles are used to take people to the hospital if going on foot is a problem.

Also depending on the urgency, ambulances can also be used.

However, this was not what was expected by a family in Sericho ward in Isiolo County.

On Wednesday morning, Deputy Governor James Lowasa narrated how a chopper was used to save the expectant mother.

"Earlier this morning the health department received a distress call from a family in Sericho Ward. An expectant woman was experiencing an emergency," he said.

However, the county could not send an ambulance to the home since the roads were impassible due to floods from the ongoing rains.

"Due to unmotorable roads caused by the current floods, our ambulance could not access her home nor transport her to the Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital (ICTRH)," Lowasa narrated.

Under pressure to save the life of the mother as well as the unborn child, the DG resulted in a chopper to airlift the woman.

Luckily, the Northern Rangelands Trust Resilient community conservancies heed Isiolo's call and sent a chopper to Sericho.

"I, therefore, advised my team to look for help in form of airlift from our partners. NRT Kenya responded immediately airlifting the woman to ICTRH," Lowasa added.

In an impressive feat, NRT came through and evacuated the mother of eight in a helicopter, navigating the treacherous weather conditions to reach her in Sericho ward.

Giving an update, the DG said the patient is stable and receiving the medical attention she needed.

Lowasa said the action by the county is the compassion and determination that his boss,  Governor Abdi Guyo has been advocating for from all departments when called upon to serve mwananchi.

"This showcases the spirit of humanity and the willingness to help those in need, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. The county together with its partners demonstrated commitment to saving lives and ensuring the well-being of their community," he added.

Governor Guyo appointed his deputy to be in charge of the Health docket.

He noted that his deputy who is a doctor by profession understood the sector well.
