Disaster Management expert Edward Wanyonyi says when attending academic meetings, parents should not only focus on the performance of their children but also ask hard questions about their safety including the food they eat.

"When you are admitting your child, find time to go round the school and see the food they are eating, where they sleep because the more we don’t involve ourselves as parents, the more teachers will not take parents seriously," Wanyonyi explained.

Security expert George Musamali opines that failure is on the part of many parents who dump their children in school and fail to follow up on their well-being.

"Many parents just leave their children at the gate without asking about any security and safety policies at the school. They don’t ask questions on the food they eat, sanitation, or visit the kitchen or dining hall," Musamali said.
