Here is a list of the crimes that took place in Kenya and internationally, within the week.

Shakahola horror

Investigation into the Kilifi cult where 100 (and counting) bodies have so far been exhumed is still ongoing.

A suspected cult leader, controversial pastor Paul Mackenzie of the Good News International church, who is said to have convinced his followers to starve to death to meet their maker, is in police custody.

Police have also arrested 14 members of the cult.

More than 30 members have been rescued, among them children as young as two weeks old.

Mother kills baby, eats body parts

A horrific video of a woman killing and eating her baby's body parts has made rounds on social media during the week.

Olivia Naserian is accused of murdering her daughter Glory Njeri at Kitengela before eating her insides.

The woman, who is in police custody awaiting a hearing on May 8, said she committed the heinous act because she has low self-esteem.

Body with stab wounds found

Mystery surrounds the murder of a 35-year-old man whose body was found in a yam plantation within Soweto informal settlement in Kahawa West, Nairobi.

The body of George Kithinji was found lying dead in the plantation with stab wounds.

Upon visiting his house, police said they found bloodstains on the mattress and recovered two blood-stained kitchen knives.

When a mob realized the man may have been killed in the house and his body dragged to the farm, they attacked the wife with blows and stones before she was rescued by police.

Police said they are yet to establish the motive behind the incident.

Body dumped at private clinic in Zimmerman

Police are investigating an incident in which the body of a man was taken to a private clinic and dumped there.

Managers at the facility said the body, which had no identification documents, was taken by three men who seemed intoxicated and ran away.

Girl attacked, raped by gang in Homa Bay

Police are looking for a gang that raided homes in Rangwe, Homa Bay and robbed them before raping a 19-year-old girl.

The three armed men raped the teenager in one of the homes while her mother, who had been threatened, waited in the house.

She said after they dragged her outside, two men defiled her. 

They stole five mobile phones, an electric iron box, TV sets, a gas cooker, a gas cylinder, woofer and money, both cash and from M Pesa. 

Bar owner shot by police in Tharaka Nithi

A man had to be admitted at Nkubu Hospital after police shot him on Monday night.

Officers were on patrol when they came across Kismart Bar operating at odd hours and ordered it to be closed. A commotion broke out after the owner, Patrick Murithi accused the police of harassment.

Police claim he was armed with a panga and tried to close the bar with few revelers inside, prompting one of the officers to shoot, injuring him in the stomach.

Body recovered from river at Riverside Drive, Nairobi

Yet to be identified body was found floating on Nairobi River at Chiromo Mortuary on Tuesday evening.

Guards at the facility told police the body was swept to the scene before floating at the junction of Waiyaki Way/ Riverside Drive.

Police arrived at the scene and removed the body before moving it to the mortuary, pending identification and autopsy.

The body did not have any physical injuries at the time of its removal.

Girl,9, defiled and murdered in Kasarani

On Monday, April 24, a nine-year-old girl was defiled and killed in Kasarani, Nairobi.

The suspect, a middle-aged man, is said to have entered a building under construction in Kasarani in the company of the girl. 

Later the man came from the building looking suspicious and ran away, prompting the residents to visit the building where they found the body.

Detectives visited the scene and found the girl, half-naked, lying with her head covered with bricks. They transported the body to the City Mortuary awaiting postmortem and identification.

A witness told police she could identify the man physically. The motive of the incident is yet to be known.

Senior Shia cleric shot dead at Iran bank

BBC reported that a member of the powerful Assembly of Experts was on Wednesday shot in northern Iran at a bank in Babolsar, in Mazandaran province.

Ayatollah Abbasali Soleimani, who was one of 88 clerics in the Assembly which appoints the Supreme Leader, died in a hospital after being shot.

Mazandaran governor said the attacker, who has been arrested, was a bank security guard and that the motive was unclear.

Nine wounded in Texas shooting

On Sunday, nine people were injured after gunfire erupted at a teenagers' party in Jasper County, Texas.

BBC said the shooting took place at a private residence where some 250 Jasper High School students had gathered after their annual prom dance.

The victims aged between 15 to 19 were rushed to two local hospitals for recovery from their.
