Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said that police officers deserve the best work environments.

The DP spoke on Saturday, as he commissioned the drilling of a borehole in Ngong police station.

The exercise occurred on the sidelines of Gachagua's visit to Kajiado where he had attended a thanksgiving service for the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Forestry Ephantus Kimotho.

"I urge police officers to continue discharging their mandate and serving the people of Kenya," he said.

The second-in-command also told the officers to do their best in the fight against illicit brew in the county.

"On the fight against illicit brews and drug abuse, I called upon the officers to give it their all, in teamwork, and take a multi-agency approach to win the fight."

The Kenya Kwanza administration largely campaigned on the promise of making better the working conditions of police officers.

Last year, Gachagua called on the police to always follow the constitution, whenever they are doing their job.

"I urge our officers, please as you undertake your duties, be guided by the constitution. This is a country of the rule of law," Gachagua said.

"This is a country that has respect for the constitution. That is why the President has indicated and I reemphasise that this government will not accept under any circumstances extrajudicial killings," he said.
