Mai Mahiu-Narok road to be reopened Tuesday – KeNHA

It was closed on Sunday after it developed a fault line following heavy rains.

Motorists have been notified that the Mai Mahiu-Narok Highway is expected to be opened by the end of Tuesday.

The road was closed down on Sunday after it developed a fault line following heavy rains, rendering it unsafe for use. 

But in a statement on Monday, the Kenya National Highways Authority said repair works are at an advanced stage at the site where the fault line appeared, some six kilometers from Mai Mahiu Town on the way to Narok. 

The section of the road has previously developed a fault line and rendered it impassable for several days.

"The team on site has been instructed to work day and night to ensure that the road is open to traffic as soon as possible," KeNHA said. 

The authority added that Roads PS, Joseph Mbugua, and KeNHA Director General, Kungu Ndungu, visited the scene.

Based on the assessment, they assured that going by the rate of repair work, the road should be reopened reopened by Tuesday, May 2.

On Sunday, the Ministry of Roads ordered closure of the road for public safety and to allow expeditious repair work.

KeNHA lauded the public for their patience and urged Kenyans to be vigilant while using roads during this rainy season.
