Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans that all pending road projects will be completed.

Speaking on Wednesday when he appeared before the Senate, Murkomen called for patience as the government sets structures to ensure this comes to pass.

"Rest assured we will complete all pending roads. I want to ask for patience. You to tell your constituents there is no point of planting bananas on those roads," he said.

"We promised as a government both in our manifesto and also our utterances that we are going to make sure all pending roads are completed."

The CS insisted that no new road projects will be launched until the pending ones are completed.

Murkomen, however, noted that in case the need arises to initiate new roads, it will only be the ones discussed with development partners.

"And I said we will not start new roads until pending ones are completed. If we have to start new roads, it will be the ones we have discussed with our development partners where they are giving us concessional support to build those roads," he said.

Murkomen is among six Cabinet Secretaries who were slated to appear before the Senate on Wednesday to answer questions from legislators.

The others are Kithure Kindiki (Interior), Peninah Malonza (Tourism), Zacharia Njeru (Lands) and Ezekiel Machogu (Education).

They will be the second group of ministry bosses to appear since the inaugural CSs’ question in the chamber.

Last week, CSs Kindiki, Njeru and Salim Mvurya (Mining) became the first to appear before the senators in the whole house.
