A family in Amutala village in Webuye Constituency has been thrown into mourning after their three-year-old daughter fell into the open borehole while playing with others.

According to the family members who spoke to the media on Wednesday, Maurice Onyango said the incident is a great blow to the family.

“We are very devastated about the incident, it is so sad that my sibling met her untimely death,” he said.

Onyango told the Star that the deceased was at the neighbour's place when the tragedy occurred adding that the borehole had not been closed.

Joshua Adui urged the community members who drilled boreholes at their residences to always close after use.

“Please let this untimely death of sister act like a wake-up call to other community members, always close boreholes after use,” Adui said.

The incident was confirmed by Phylis Wabomba who condemned the incident calling those having young children and staying close to boreholes and pits to be careful.
