Police are investigating four separate cases of sudden deaths in Nairobi.

The victims were found in separate places on Wednesday and Thursday.

The first incident happened at a city hospital where a woman who had tried to procure an abortion died.

The woman who had been referred to the facility had been to a private clinic for the mission before it went bad.

She was then sent to the city hospital where she died Thursday night, police said.

Police were called to the scene and said an investigation will be conducted.

Cases of procuring abortion have been on the rise in the country. Many are unreported as they don’t lead to deaths.

Those that turn fatal are the ones that reported, police say even as they term the issue as criminal.

Last year, 25 cases of procuring abortion were reported to police as compared to 36 that were recorded in 2021, 50 in 2020, 52 in 2019 and 12 in 2018.

In Kahawa West, a body of a man aged about 28 was found lying in a supine position on top of a septic tank.

Police said the body which had no physical injuries, was taken to city mortuary awaiting identification and postmortem examination.

In Tassia Mabatini area, James Ouko aka Mrefu 35, collapsed and died along a corridor.

Police cited locals and said the deceased had been complaining of stomach pains before the death occurred.

The body had no physical injuries and was taken to City Morgue awaiting post-mortem.

In Kibera, Wycliffe Owigo, 47 collapsed and died suddenly.

The deceased who was a tout at Gikomba came home complaining of severe stomachache when he excused himself to the washrooms where he collapsed on Wednesday evening.

He was helped back to the house but he passed on, his relatives said.

His body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

In Kayole, the body of a woman aged about 42 years was Thursday found dead in her house.

The caretaker of an apartment where the woman stayed noticed the death and informed police.

Police said the woman was found lying dead on a sofa set with no visible injuries but bleeding from the eyes, mouth and ears.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending probe and autopsy.

Police say they receive up to five cases of sudden deaths daily.

Most of the cases are pending under probe.
