President William Ruto has announced a trade deal with Israel that would see Kenya export at least four agricultural products to the Middle East.
Speaking during an Israel Investor Roundtable Forum in Tel Aviv, Israel, the President said Kenya would be exporting four products to Israel among them tea, coffee, pineapples and avocados a deal that would commence on June 5.
“The good news is that we are beginning the journey on June 5, when we will have the first landing of pineapples in Kenya to Israel,” Ruto told the investors.
Ruto praised Kenyan tea and coffee products to woe Israel investors to focus on Kenyan agricultural products.
“Kenya supplies the best tea and coffee in the world. It is Kenya’s tea that is used to blend with other teas to give them flavour,” Ruto said on May 10.
“Instead of buying that blended tea, we will be selling you our premium tea for the same price.”
President Ruto also explained why Kenya and Israel should resume direct flights that were cancelled by Israel in 2002 following a terror attack on an Israel-owned hotel in Kikambala and an aeroplane to the country’s airline.
“Without free movement, tourism and trade are severely restricted,” Ruto said.
