Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga has criticised Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over a government directive issued over Mukami Kimathi's state funeral.

Speaking during the funeral service, Raila told the DP that he did not order the flags in the county to be flown half-mast as is the norm during state funerals.

"Gachagua said that we would have a state funeral, and I want to remind the government that we do not have the flags at half-mast," he said.

The Opposition chief said the government also did not fulfil Mukami's last wish of having her husband's remains exhumed.

"She had wished that on the day of her funeral, the remains of her husband be removed from Kamiti Maximum Prison and brought to her.," Raila said.

He called on the government to ensure that Mukami's last wishes of being reunited with her husband are met.

Mukami died aged 96 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi after developing breathing difficulties.

The widow had always wished to be given the remains of her late husband so she could give him a decent burial.
