Roots Party Leader George Wajackoyah will represent Eliud Wekesa alias Yesu wa Tongaren in court.

Wakackoyah, with two other lawyers, will be defending the preacher in a case where he was accused of unlawful operation of an unregistered society, radicalisation and money laundering.

The embattled preacher had on May 10 said he will not need lawyers if arraigned over his church activities.

He said he did not break any law and he shall be set free once the interrogation is done.

“If I am arraigned, I don’t plan to have any physical lawyer to defend me but instead my lawyers will be the sun and the moon since before God I have done nothing wrong,” he said.

Wekesa was last week summoned by the Bungoma DCI officer Elijah Macharia for questioning over his New Jerusalem church and has been in police custody.

The prosecution also declared him mentally unstable asking the court to grant them permission to conduct a mental assessment on the suspect.

“The court has agreed and granted permission to the prosecution side to detain the suspect for four more days to allow them to complete the probe and carry out the mental assessment,” Olando said.

The prosecution also alleges that there have been criminal activities on indoctrination at the suspect’s church that might be linked to the Shakahola incident.

He is expected in court today.
