Three Nandi MPs have come under attack from contractors for allegedly issuing directives to Kenya's rural roads authority to stop awarding of tenders.

The three MPs are said to be looking for companies that could be awarded tenders to carry out routine road maintenance in their respective constituencies.

The chairman of Nandi County contractors Isaac Sang said as a result, the roads in the three constituencies were in a pathetic state.

Sang now wants EACC to move to establish the vested interests the MPs had in road maintenance in their respective constituencies.

“Some of them want to be paid upfront by constructors before moving their equipment to the earmarked roads which are very unethical, in fact new EACC chairman Bishop Oginde should start from Nandi,” Sang said.

He spoke to The Star in Kapsabet town.

He said Three MPs allowed KERRA to carry out their mandate and issued award letters in April.

“At least in the three constituencies whose letters of the award were issued out the roads have been gravelled, murramed and culverts installed."

Nandi has Six constituencies. Five of the MPs are first term while one is in his Third term.

Tinderet MP Julius Meli, who is in his third term was the first to have roads in his constituency repaired.

Sang explained that the MP has been at the forefront of allowing government officers to do their work.

“Residents are going to hold demonstrations against three MPs who are godfathers of impunity and who have made residents suffer due to their selfish interests,” Sang Noted.
