Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has said that National Police Reservists will now access the NHIF cover.
Speaking while in Baringo, Kindiki said the cover will extend to their family members.
"From July 1, 2023, every National Police Reservist will have an NHIF medical cover. This will be extended to their family members," he said.
On Wednesday, the CS announced that the police reservists will be managed by the national government.
He said they will be given formal uniforms, armed and listed for a monthly stipend.
"The government appreciates the pivotal role played by the National Police Reservists. They are a key partner in combating criminals. The government will provide them with the National Health Insurance Fund cover, uniforms and equipment to facilitate them in service delivery," he said.
The CS said the design for the National Police Reservists uniform was almost complete.
He said the government will kit all NPR officers including footwear to enable the officers to execute their duties.
Kindiki has been at the forefront of the fight against banditry menace and he promised that banditry will end under his watch.
"The choice is simple: armed criminals or Kenya, and there is no way we can be defeated by bandits. We have enough security officers, skills, expertise, and equipment to deal with the criminals," he said.
The CS said that the officers continue to flush out the bandits and recover stolen cattle.
