The Siaya County Assembly will convene on Monday, May 22, 2023, to consider a report on allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the devolved unit as was presented to them by deputy governor William Oduol.

This is according to a notice of a Special Assembly sitting given by house speaker George Okode Friday evening.

The Assembly will also be discussing the Siaya County Supplementary Appropriations II Bill, 2023.

"... following a resolution by a majority of members in consultation with the Budget and Appropriations Committee, it is notified for the information of Members of the County Assembly and the general public that there will be a Special Sitting... which shall be held in the County Assembly Chambers in Siaya..., "Okode's notice reads in part.

There had been growing concerns that the Assembly was taking too long to consider Oduol's rhetoric even after he (Oduol) submitted written evidence to the Assembly Clerk on April 14, 2023 - more than a month ago.

On April 12, Oduol appeared before the Okode-led Committee on General Oversight for oral submissions regarding claims that his boss James Orengo was taking the county in the wrong direction.

However, he failed to testify after Okode insisted that he ought to have filed the written submission at least five days before his physical appearance.

In a past interview with journalists in Siaya, Oduol asserted that the Assembly has the mandate to, on behalf of the masses, scrutinize his 'evidence' of corruption.

As such, he said he was on standby in case the Assembly would decide to re-invite him for an oral presentation.

While giving an interview on Ramogi TV, Oduol threatened to take his evidence to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) if the Assembly was to dilly-dally any further.

In his written submission that this reporter has seen, Oduol alleges that the plunder of public money in Siaya started right with their swearing-in Ceremony on August 25, 2022.

He also mentioned names of individuals, mostly junior staff, whom he claimed their bank accounts have been used by powerful individuals to steal public money.

Oduol has resorted to back-to-back media interviews in a bid to clarify to the public the tiff between him and Orengo.

A fortnight ago, Oduol claimed that goons had blocked him from attending a cabinet meeting where the Supplement Budget II was discussed - the very matter that will be part of the Assembly's agenda on Monday.

Last Saturday, there was a commotion at the burial ceremony of the late Siaya County Public Board chairman Elijah Achoch in Siaya after a "goon" grabbed a microphone from Oduol as he sought to give his condolence speech.

Governor Orengo was in attendance.
