Cancer is a major health problem in Machakos County, Governor Wavinya Ndeti has said.
Ndeti said the cancer was among the most threatening diseases among the residents in the county.
She urged second lady Dorcas Rigathi to intervene and work towards addressing the issue.
"Cancer is a problem in Machakos County. Most of the diseases our people are suffering from are due to pollution of River Athi," Ndeti said.
She spoke during the Lower Eastern Interdenominational prayers in Machakos County on Friday.
Ndeti mentioned Mwala and Mavoko sub-counties as the most affected by cancer owing to high levels of River Athi pollution alongside industrial affluence emitted to the environment.
The county boss asked residents to visit health facilities for earlier detection and treatment of Cancer.
She said most men neither speak nor visit hospitals to seek medication thereby exposing them to cancer-related deaths.
"Men don't speak and hence fail to get treated during the early stages of the disease. If Cancer is detected earlier, you will be treated," Ndeti said.
Pastor Dorcas, on the other hand, urged the over 4,000 men of the cloth from Kitui and Machakos counties to join her in rehabilitating the boy child lost in drugs and substance abuse.
She said a boy child is the seed carrier.
"There is no way you will leave the country's seed carrier in the gutter. If we do so, it means no future," Dorcas said.
"So, we need to help our children. We need to go validate their dreams. It is up to us the clergy to help these less privileged members of the society out of the streets," she said.
