COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has called for a meeting between President William Ruto and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga.

He noted that the two leaders ought to meet and deliberate on the various issues raised for discussion.

"Hilo jopo halina maana yeyote. Mheshimiwa Raila Amolo Odinga, William Samoei Ruto wakutane watu wawili waangalie ni njia gani watafuata. Because they are stakeholders in this country," he said.

This is loosely translated to, "That committee is of no importance. It is up to Raila Amolo Odinga, and William Samoei Ruto to meet and get a solution".

Speaking on Thursday in a clip aired by Citizen TV, the Cotu SG rubbished the bipartisan committee, saying it is made up of "small people".

Atwoli exuded confidence that the meeting between Raila and Ruto would bear fruits, adding that the solution did not need to be a handshake.

He reiterated his call, saying it was for the common good of the country and the larger East African region.

The talks, he said, should focus on how the country can move on, how to save the economy and the Kenyan shilling.

He said the country's neighbours were depending on her economy, adding that Kenya's economic path would affect the entire EA region.

Atwoli said the country could not heal if the two sides fail to reconcile.

"There is no escape route. There is no way the opposition will heal on its own or the government heal on its own. There is no way the other factions like workers, religion will heal if we cannot come together," he said.

"Nchi ya Kenya ndio mama na baba."

He reiterated the need for reconciliation between Kenya Kwanza Alliance and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, adding that this will heal the economy.

His remarks come a day after Azimio called off the talks.

"We have had to suspend the Bipartisan dialogue after we could not persuade our friends from Kenya Kwanza to concede to some common sense interim measures," Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna said on Wednesday.

The issues raised by Azimio include lowering the cost of Unga, the Jubilee party to be left alone, preservation of the Election Servers and suspension of IEBC reconstitution.
