Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was on Monday received by the Nakuru County Governor Susan Kihika, for a conference on ending alcoholism and drug abuse in the Rift Valley region.
The conference brings together leaders, administrators, security officers, and residents from Rift Valley.
"Our resolve to end alcoholism, manufacturing, and sale of illicit brew and drug abuse remains strong," Gachagua said.
"It's time to deal with this danger, which threatens to wipe out our youthful generation," he said.
The Deputy President who chaired a similar leaders meeting on alcoholism and drug abuse in Mt Kenya on April 14, 2023, was of the view that the illicit brew dealers targeted young people between 12 and 30 years.
“We cannot, as the leadership, sit back and watch as an entire generation is being wiped out. We have concluded that this region is targeted for destruction because of its population, its success in business through the introduction of illicit brew and drugs,” Gachagua said.
The conference is set to come up with radical proposals on how to deal with the alcohol and drug abuse menace in this region.
