Why Haji failed to reveal net worth during NIS job vetting

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji on Tuesday requested not to reveal his net worth during vetting. 

Haji, who is being vetted for the National Intelligence Service Director General job said his net worth could be a national security issue if he gets appointed to the job. 

"Chair, I am requesting to give the committee the papers and not to reveal my net worth as it will be a national security issue at some point," he said. 

On May 16, President William Ruto nominated the Haji to the position through a gazette notice. 

"Consequently,  it is notified that Excellency the President has, In accordance with Section 7 (1) of the National Intelligence Service Act, nominated Noordin Hajl, CBS, for appointment as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service," Ruto said. 

If appointed, Haji will return to the NIS after 6 years of serving as the Director of Public Prosecutions. 

He will replace Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru, who proceeds to retire. 

Before being the DPP, he served as Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service.

He holds a Bachelor of Law and Master's degree from the University of Wales, Cardiff.

Additionally, he holds a second Master's Degree in National Security Policy with Merit (MNSPO) from the Australian National University.
