Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni on Monday signed into law the anti-gay bill, which prescribes tougher penalties for ''aggravated homosexuality''.

The new law, one of the harshest anti-LGBTQ laws in the world, makes homosexuality illegal with offenders set to face a 20-year jail sentence for promoting homosexuality.

''President @KagutaMuseveni has assented to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill 2023. It now becomes the Anti-Homosexuality Act 2023,'' twitted State House, Uganda.

However, the law received both love and hate as others felt it was right to stop relationships between same genders while others felt that sexual preference should be a personal choice and the government should not interfere.

Tatiana, a student said the part of the law where a person convicted of aggravated homosexuality the result is death, is wrong because the president is not the giver of life.

"I am not in support of Museveni's bill that LGBTQ people should be killed or jailed, he is not the giver of life, instead he should take these people for counseling because most of them were not born gay but just adopted it from the white man. They should be talked to and they might change their characters, killing is not the right thing to do" she said.

"It is not good to kill or jail someone because everyone has a right to live, they should be given a fine they can pay if found indulging in homosexuality," Victor Mwanja a plumber said.

" I fully support the decision of President Museveni because there is no way people from the same gender can marry each other, that is not acceptable at all," Kelvin Alulu, a Nairobi resident said.

"I am not in support of the Ugandan President killing LGBTQ participants. They should be educated on the dangers of homosexuality and some taken to rehab so that they can reform. Killing is against the bible and the law," Shila said
