Fashion and elegance displayed in Madaraka fete

The country celebrates its 60th Madaraka Day since it gained independence.

Kenyans and leaders on Thursday lit up the Moi Stadium in Embu County for Madaraka Day celebrations.

Dresses and suits are the talk of the day at Madaraka Day celebrations as leaders and Kenyans displayed fashion.

The event was presided by President William Ruto with other leaders in attendance.

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei arrived donned in an orange dress with a Fendi designer bag.

Ruto arrived dressed in a black suit, purple tie and a white shirt, he was accompanied with first lady Rachael who donned an off-shoulder kitenge dress blending tradition and modernity.

Rachael's choice of dress showcased the strength and spirit of Madaraka.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrived with his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

Gachagua was dressed in black suit and a yellow tie which is UDA's party main colour.

His wife Dorcas Rigathi was dressed in a gold dress with flower-like partans.

Trade CS Moses Kuria was dressed in a dark grey suit with a yellow tie while his counterpart from Foreign Affairs Ababu Namwaba wore a blue suit with white stripes and a maroon tie.

This is Ruto's first Madaraka Day celebration since he was sworn in as President last year.

Many Kenyans have big expectations from President Ruto on this day.

Madaraka Day is significant in Kenya's history because it is on this day in June 1963 Kenya formed the first indigenous government.
