Gunmen escape after shooting movie shop attendant in Kitengela

Police said one of the gunmen drew his gun and shot the man in the right side of his neck

Three gunmen on a motorbike shot and seriously injured an attendant of a movie shop in Kitengela, Kajiado.

According to police and witnesses, the gang went to the shop opposite Enkare Club off Namanga road on Thursday, June 1 morning and held a brief conversation with one Silvester Mavare, 24.

Police said one of the gunmen drew his gun and shot Mavare in the right side of his neck before they jumped onto a waiting motorcycle and sped off.

"The attackers did not steal anything from the shop as they escaped soon after the shooting," police said.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was admitted in serious but stable condition.

Detectives from Kitengela DCI visited the scene and collected a spent cartridge.

Police say they are yet to establish the motive of the attack and no arrest has been made so far.

Police handling the matter said they suspect the victim was targeted in the attack and investigations are ongoing to get the gunmen.

Meanwhile, a man died after falling into a pit latrine that was being dug in a village in Mtito Andei.

"The incident happened in Thongoni shopping centre, where farmhand Musembl Musau, 26, accidentally fell into a pit latrine that was being dug within a compound," police said.

"He was retrieved and taken to Makindu Sub county Hospital where he succumbed while undergoing treatment."

The body was taken to the local mortuary.

In Kilifi, a fisherman drowned in the Indian Ocean after a fishing boat capsized. 

Three fishermen were coming from fishing in the deep sea when they were hit by strong waves forcing their boat to capsize.

Kilifi county disaster management team who were on patrol in the waters rescued them but one Kea Salim Ali, 48, had died by then, police said of the May 31 incident.

The body was moved to a local mortuary pending probe.
