First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto has inaugurated the Mama Forest Park in Kitale township Forest Block 3.

The Saturday exercise saw over 4,000 trees planted in approximately 15 minutes.

The 15-acre forest park is part of the Kenya Forest Service Master Plan, which aims to convert the Kitale township forest into a recreational park.

Mama Rachel spoke on the role of women in environmental conservation, urging them to plant trees and adopt clean cooking technologies in place of firewood.

This will help reduce deforestation and household emissions-related illnesses that kill over 23,000 people per year in Kenya.

The tree planting activity is part of the First Lady's commitment to plant 500 million trees in 10 years.

This is in support of President William Ruto's directive of 15 billion trees by 2032 to grow Kenya's tree cover to the recommended 30 per cent.

The plan will help mitigate the adverse effects of climate change.

"I urge you all to get involved and plant trees in your local area. We can help heal our planet and protect its vital ecosystems," Mama Rachel said.

"Let's use every day as an opportunity to show our love and respect for our environment."

She also championed the effective management of solid waste in urban areas.

Mama Rachel took part in the public sweeping of Kitale streets and distributed 25 dustbins to the Trans Nzoia county government.

The bins will be installed across the town in areas with high traffic.

Mama Rachel was accompanied by Endebess MP Robert Pukose, Spouse to Trans Nzoia Governor Lillian Natembeya, county secretary Truphosa Amere, Kenya Seed managing director Sammy Chepsiror, New KCC managing director Nixon Sigei and local community forest associations.
