Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa has said he will join National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya party ahead of the 2027 General elections.

The MP said he might seek the county's Governor seat on the Ford Kenya ticket.

Speaking in his constituency on Tuesday, Barasa said President William Ruto’s UDA party has fewer Members of the County Assembly (MCA’s) adding that in 2027 he needs the full support of MCAs to work.

MP Barasa told the Star that he has done enough political ground checks and is certain Ford Kenya will produce a majority of MCAs in the Bungoma county assembly.

In 2017, Barasa was elected  MP on the retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee party but in 2022 he joined Ruto’s UDA party.

Barasa called on the Western region to back and join the Ford Kenya party to make it stronger.

“Wetang’ula has plans to make Ford Kenya stronger. Let us all join the party in preparation for the 2027 elections,” he said.

On the finance bill, Barasa noted that MPs will support sections in the bill that favours the common Mwananchi and reject those that will burden them.

“Let me be clear on this, MPs will not just pass the bill but they scrutinize it before making a decision,” he said.
