President William Ruto on Tuesday bade farewell to outgoing UK High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott at State House, Nairobi.

Marriott's tenure is set to come to an end at the end of June after serving in the role for four years.

"Your Excellency Jane Marriott, you have been a true friend of Kenya. We wish you the best of luck in your next tour of duty," Ruto said in a message on Twitter.

"Asante sana Mr President. I am already missing this beautiful country of Kenya," Marriott said in response to the President's statement.

In a different post, the envoy listed a number of her achievements since taking on the role in April 2019 taking over from Nic Hailey.

These include support of more than 300,000 children to access education, investing more than Sh6 billion in ending preventable deaths and issuance of cash transfers to 133,000 of the poorest households through the Hunger Safety Net Programme (HSNP).

Desmond Patrick Neil Wigan, who has been serving as the Ambassador to Tell Aviv since 2019, has since been named as Marriot's replacement.

While making the announcement on April 19, the British government said in a statement on their website that Marriott will be transferred to another Diplomatic Service appointment at the end of her tenure.
