Health CS Susan Nakhumicha has dismissed reports of a new wave of Covid-19 in the country.

She said the flu-like symptoms witnessed in the recent past were due to the cold season and not coronavirus.

"From our surveillance, we do not have an upsurge of Covid yet that we can report to the country and tell them to take corrective action," she said.

The CS, however, urged the public to take necessary precaution against the flu.

These, she said, include getting a flu vaccine available in most health facilities across the country.

However, if symptoms persist, Nakhumicha said one should present themselves to a health facility for a doctor's assistance.

The CS outlined the other measures including the need to avoid touching one's mouth, nose and eyes, as contact clears way for transmission of the flue virus.

She also encouraged Kenyans to wear face masks and observe hygiene by washing their hands with soap and water and sanitising.

The reports come a month after Kenya dropped restrictions against tourists and eased Covid -19 precautionary requirements.

This was occasioned by the declaration by the World Health Organization that the disease was no longer a global health emergency.

Covid-19 broke out some three years ago in Wuhan, China in December 2019.

The virus that first hit Kenya in March 2020 left at least 5,000 people dead.
