Sports CS Ababu Namwamba now says that the government will soon launch a new scheme, where sports personalities will know what reward to expect when they win or break a world record.

Speaking on Tuesday, Namwamba said the scheme, which is the first in the country is ready and will soon be launched by President William Ruto.

Namwamba said the scheme will cover all sports.

He said the country has for a long time operated in darkness in regard to awarding sports people when they register victory.

"Our sports personalities will know what to expect when they win or break a world record. The scheme is available and ready for launch. IT will cover all sports sectors. We did not know what to do when Harambee Stars won a match.

"We have done this because at ministry we are convinced that Kenya is number one export is sports," the CS said.

Namwamba said the scheme will partly ride on the government's affordable housing project, where athletes and other sports people will get houses at affordable rates.

He said this will help mitigate the challenge of sports personalities suffering after retirement due to lack of homes.

"As part of this scheme, we are riding on the government's affordable housing... we have an arrangement where our sportsmen and women will afford houses at affordable rates. This will address the cases of sports personalities dying without homes."
