Outgoing Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has been sworn in as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service.
He succeeds Major-General (Rtd) Philip Wachira Kameru who has held the position for over eight years.
Haji took his oath at State House on Wednesday in a ceremony presided by President William Ruto.
The outgoing spy chief, Kameru, was appointed Director-General in September 2014 after an illustrious military career; having risen through the ranks to the position of Director of Military Intelligence in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
The event was attended by Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney General Justin Muturi among other top officials.
Before being the DPP, Haji served as Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service.
Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta picked Haji from NIS to become the country’s second Director of Public Prosecutions under the 2010 Constitution.
He now returns to NIS after 6 years of serving as the DPP.
