Ichung'wa warned that no member should miss next week session

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has clarified that the debate on the proposed Finance Bill, 2023 is not yet done.

Speaking on Thursday, he reminded the legislators that they still have an opportunity to debate, come next week.

"The Finance Bill 2023 is not yet done. There is a third reading in Parliament that has been set for next week," Wetang'ul noted.

Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wa also stated that there was time for this reading which will take place between Tuesday and Thursday.

"In the course of next week, the third reading will take place, and also the budget estimates if they will be published over the weekend," he said.

Ichung'wa further stated that no member of the National Assembly should miss the session.

"The members have no business outside the chamber other than debating on the finance bill come next week."

Minority Whip Junet Mohammed took the opportunity and urged Azimio members to turn up and attend all plenary sessions.

"Now that we are all in agreement Mr Speaker through your indulgence, it is official we have the finance bill debate on Tuesday. Let us all attend," he said.

Members of Parliament on Wednesday voted in favour of the Finance Bill 2023, paving the way for its determination by the committee of the whole House.

It followed an intense debate in Parliament to discuss the proposed tax measures which 176 MPs voted to endorse at the second reading stage while 81 MPs out of 257 opposed.

The Bill moved to the committee of the whole House where members will have a chance to push through their amendments.

The Committee will now consider the Bill clause by clause and take a vote on each of the clauses.
