Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has praised Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba for defying her party and voting against the proposed Finance Bill, 2023.
Karua commended the legislator for projecting the views of her employers and most Kenyans.
She said Wamuchomba is a true representative of the people.
"Congrats Hon (Gathoni) Wamuchomba for your firm stand in articulating your constituents and views of a majority of Kenyans. A true representative of the people," Karua said.
Wamuchomba sided with the opposition and voted against the Bill, on Wednesday.
Azimio la Umoja Coalition spokesperson Makau Mutua on Thursday, also come out to defend the Githunguri MP.
He insisted that democracies thrive because of the few people who defy their masters like Wamuchomba did.
MPs voted in favour of the Finance Bill 2023, paving the way for its determination by the committee of the whole House.
It followed an intense debate in Parliament to discuss the proposed tax measures which 176 MPs voted to endorse at the second reading stage while 81 MPs out of 257 opposed.
The Bill moved to the committee of the whole House where members will have a chance to push through their amendments.
The Committee will consider the Bill clause by clause and take a vote on each of the clauses.
The National Assembly's Finance and National Planning Committee tabled the amended Finance Bill, 2023 on Tuesday after the public gave its views on the document.
