The family of Itivanzou chief Daniel Kilonzo Muthengi whose body was found by the roadside on Friday night, wants the government to unravel the cause of his death.
His father Joseph Muthengi Kaivu urged the government to help them establish how his son met his death. Kaivu was speaking on Sunday at his home in Kwanguru village, Kyuso, in Kitui county.
"My son was so friendly and he hardly differed with anyone," he said.
The body of chief Muthengi was found by passersby near the gate of Itivanzou Day Secondary School at 11pm on Friday night. It was in a kneeling position.
Relative Mwisurya Kalua said on Sunday that neither his wallet nor identification documents were found on the body.
She said the body had an injury on the left side of the head near the eye and was covered with soil.
Widow Kathini Kilonzo said her husband's death was mysterious and shocking.
"My husband was in good shape when he left home on Friday morning. He helped with a number of domestic chores and we had breakfast together. He did not complain of feeling unwell," she said.
She said that her husband has served as the chief for 15 years.
Reports indicate that after a busy say on Friday, the chief was with friends in a bar at Itivanzou market area, but he excused himself to go home about four kilometers away.
Kyuso subcounty police commander John Lusia said investigations to unravel how he died have started.
