UDA secretary general Cleophas Malala has urged President William Ruto to look into the Mumias Sugar factory that grounded years ago.

He was speaking during a church service at Christ Church pro-cathedral on Sunday.

“Mr. President please just ignores the Mps and other political wings and ensure Mumias come back to life and if you win that we shall create more employment for our youths,” Malala said.

Mumias was one of the greatest sugar producers in the country however it was grounded due to poor management.

Malala further accused the previous government of cheating Kenyans that they were working on a formula to revive the factory.

On the same note, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has said they will be having a sugar conference to address sugar issues in the country.

“Majority of those who were suppliers to Mumias sugar are currently living a poor life as the company owes them millions of shillings,” he said.

Last week, Barasa said it was important to hold a conference on the sugar industry for stakeholders to deliberate on the revival of the troubled subsector.

“Soon, we are going to have a sugar conference as Western Kenya counties to deliberate on how to protect our farmers and ensure that the processing and trading policies benefit farmers and not brokers,” he said.
