Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said the government will double water capacity to six million connectivity in the next five years.

In a statement on Monday, the DP said this will follow an assessment of the existing water capacity in the country.

"The Kenya Water and Sanitation International Conference and Exhibition in Mombasa, which I opened on behalf of President William Ruto, offered us a forum to assess existing capacity in doubling the current connectivity to safe and clean water from 3 million in the next five years," he said.

The DP said that Kenya has sufficient technologies for integration into plans of ensuring people have ample, clean and safe water.

Gachagua added that the country needs improved access to safe and clean water for domestic and commercial applications.

He said as Kenya accelerates achieving Goal 6 of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations, consultations with key public and private agencies are essential.

"I thank the able Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation Alice Wahome and the Water and Sanitation Providers Association and other partners for a well thought-out Conference," Gachagua added.

Leaders present at the conference included governors Abdulswamad Nassir (Mombasa ), Andrew Mwadime (Taita Taveta) and Joshua Irungu (Laikipia ) among other leaders.

They committed to working with the national government in the delivery of access to water for all.
