Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said the Kenya Kwanza administration means well for all Kenyans, as he called on the Western Kenya region to unite and support the President.

He urged Western Kenya leaders to work with President William Ruto’s government for the region’s development agenda to be fully realised.

Mudavadi who spoke at the Anglican Church of Kenya, Christ Church Cathedral in Kakamega during the Sunday Thanksgiving service, said the region stands to benefit more if the people support the government’s agenda of reviving the economy.

“Let us have the responsibility of empowering our people as leaders and together, we will build our region for our people to live with dignity,” he said.

He also challenged leaders to understand that it is a collective responsibility and not a personal problem for the president to fix the economy.

“When leaders tell Kenyans that the issues we are trying to fix as a government are President Ruto’s problems how do you want the people to react?” posed Mudavadi.

“We should understand that this is a collective responsibility that needs all of us to join hands, rally behind the President for us to change the fortunes of our people.”

The Prime Cabinet Secretary further defended the government's position on the proposed Finance Bill, 2023 saying that no country can prosper without collecting revenue to aid in key government operations.

He insisted that Kenyans should not lose hope, as President Ruto’s administration is working out modalities to ensure things get better moving into the future.

“We promised the people of Kenya that we will support the education sector by employing an additional 30,000 new teachers. Where will we get the money to pay them if we do not collect taxes?

“Some of the Members of Parliament who are opposing the Finance Bill need money for Constituency Development Fund. If we do not ratify the tax policy and taxation measures, where will we get the money?”

Mudavadi lauded the president for committing to support the development projects in the Western Kenya region.

He said this would begin with reviving the ailing Mumias Sugar Company, equipping Kakamega Referral Hospital and completing tarmacking of several roads in the region.

He also applauded the level of political maturity demonstrated by leaders from the region during President Ruto’s visit saying they displayed the qualities of leaders who mean well for their people and the region.
