The living standards of all NHIF staff will be monitored to unveil if they are in line with their incomes, Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakumicha has announced.

The CS revealed this in a media briefing on Monday.

“We are going to commence an elaborate lifestyle audit on all staff of NHIF. This is to ensure that each member of staff can explain their wealth portfolio in consistence with their earnings,” Nakumicha said.

She said that the action will start this June, and will continue throughout the year.

“This will commend this month in conjunction with EAC but will continue progressively to the end of the year. Any inconsistencies flagged out will be subjected to investigations and will attract firm legal measures,” Nakumicha said.

This comes after she suspended eight National Health Insurance Fund branch managers accused of using underhand tactics to fleece Kenyans.

The CS faulted cartels for colluding with branch managers to orchestrate the scheme.

She also ordered the NHIF board to commence investigations into the alleged fraud and present a preliminary report to her desk within the next 48 hours.

The investigations according to the CS will include inviting the whistle-blower to shed light on the details of the syndicate.

Further, she directed the division of standards and regulations to take action on the same and give a report.
